Dare to Miss a Shot

· 1 min read >

Do you feel that 100% of what you do must be 100% perfect, 100% of the time?

As humans, it is natural to strive for perfection and excellence in what we do. At times, it’s not very logical. Sometimes everything can be imperfect; the rest of the time, some things will remain imperfect forever. If something needs to be perfect, it could be hard to get it done. Success could be rarely satisfying because we would always think that we could have done it better.

At times, the pressure to achieve perfection can be overwhelming. The real problem arises when we become so fixated on the idea of perfection that we are unwilling to even begin a task, thinking it is impossible to do it perfectly. Every time we encounter a situation like this, we tend to procrastinate or even avoid tasks altogether! And when we stop, the task doesn’t go away. The result? — an incomplete task.

But the good news is — everything we do doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, it is unlikely that we will ever be 100% perfect. The problem is not in the things we do or in the way we do it. The problem is in the way we think we should do it. The flaw is in the yardstick we choose to measure it.

So it is important to recognize that perfection is not a binary concept, but rather a continuous spectrum. While it may be tempting to hold ourselves to an impossible standard of 100% perfection, it is important to remember that even small steps towards improvement can be considered a measure of success.

It is also important to remember that perfection is subjective, and what may be considered perfect by one person may not necessarily be the same for another. This is why it is essential to focus on personal learning and growth, rather than trying to meet the expectations of others.

So, if you have been hesitant to start a project because you feel it must be perfect, it is time to let go of that mentality. Rather than dwelling on the possibility of imperfection, it is time to take the plunge. There’s no need to “be ready”.

  • Start the project you’ve been planning for days, months or even years.
  • Start by setting smaller realistic goals for yourself. And when you succeed to reach a goal, celebrate your achievement and cultivate self-confidence.
  • Start it today.

Remember that perfection is not an all-or-nothing concept. It is a continuous scale, and every step towards excellence is a step towards success. Dare to miss a shot! After all, mistakes are a part of success.
